Last week of Ap Comp

Aren't you excited? I know I am. It's been a long time coming and its finally here! But this last week is going to be hell.

We have so much to, so many papers to write, so many books to read. We have to band together and fight through it. We can do it.

About time we had a field trip

I've been advocating going on a field trip in this class since the first quarter and finally Mr. Kunkle listens to my carefully spoken words. Although I'm not too excited about going to another lecture when we can do the same thing here. However, I haven't decided if I'm going to go yet. It depends on what we are doing in my third block class.

So let me ponder on this idea of a field trip. I might just stay at school and read some fascinating cartoons that I find randomly laid out across our shiny hallway floors. I'm sure Mr. Kunkle would care less if I decided not to go. I probably won't go. Honestly. I might go. Honestly. I honestly don't know. Honest.

Emerson Activity

"The world has been instructed by its kings, who have so magnetized the eyes of nations."

This quote by Emerson is probably the most accurate statement in Self-Reliance. He's saying that we are all controlled, not necessarily by Kings, but by rulers, and these rulers attract attention from everyone else. We have been taught to listen to these rulers no matter if we disagree with them. Every ruler draws attention, which is what Emerson meant when he wrote "who have magnetized the eyes of nations."

In the United States, we are instructed by the President who has the eyes of every other foreign nation. In other countries there are chancellors or queens. But, as a whole, the world is still instructed by kings and rulers, like Emerson said.

Out of Ideas for Blogs

I've had three straight quarters where I have been forced to blog. AP comp in the first, college lit in the second, and ap comp once again. I must say that I am out of ideas. I have no clue what to write about next. Plus, I am without motivation. I've been blogging so much that these teachers should start paying me for my insight.

I have written about so much these past months. I have written about AP Comp field trips, snack day, and I even invented a word. I just can't do this anymore. I'm am emotionally exhausted. My last post, where I question why AP Comp is a history class, will most likely be by last well thought out post. I honestly am tired. Tired of my blog called Fruit Punch. Tired of commenting on other peoples blogs.

But I'm going to fight through it, unlike the Cubs who have lost 8 straight playoff games. I'm going to keep blogging and I'm going to try my darnest to make all of you laugh in these blogs. But, don't expect much. I'm on the brink of collapse, like Saddam Husseins statue when the civilians tore it down. I might be finished as well.

Why Is AP Comp a History Class?

Alright, so I'm a very opininated person, and sometimes teachers don't like my opinions on certain things. For example, I ruin Mr. Kunkles day when I tell him that annotating is unbelievably unecessary. He looks at me, strokes his impressive beard, and shakes his head. But deep down, he knows I'm going to great places in life.

So I want to know why I was told AP Composition was in english class, when it is absolutely a history class. For real. We read and study about stuff that happended during the 1600's and even stuff before that. We have all learned this stuff already!!! Why are we reading this kind of stuff?

You can sit there and tell me that historical writing is great and it deserves to be read. Alright, I can agree with that. But do you know what else is great? Writing that is current! Why can't we read novels that have been published in the last ten years? Like read some John Grisham or something. I would actually look forward to reading at home if we read some good books and essays. But no, we read essays that are not written how we write so it is difficult to understand.

In class, Mr. Kunkle has often asked us why a lot of us don't participate in class discussions that deal with writings from 56 BC. It's because we don't find it interesting. It's as simple is that.

I just don't understand why this is a history class. Please tell me. And Mr. Kunkle, this isn't a diss on you in any way. I'm just being honest here. Least I have the balls to say something. I'm not going to let my opinions go unheard.

Coach Carter

As usual, I volunteered to go first for the America in the Movies project in AP Comp. I chose to use the movie Coach Carter in describing how it relates to America.

I used three scenes. One where the basketball team wins on a buzzer beater, one where they lose on a buzzer, and the last scene I used was of a player giving a long speech to his coach. The connections I used were pretty simple. For the first scene, I said that anyone can make it America, which is why they call it the Land of Opportunity.

For the second scene, I said that even though anyone can make it, everyone fails at some point in their life and hard work will eventually pay off. The third scene I said that the words the player used to give the speech basically described America.

I got an A- on it. Yeah. That's right.
